Welcome back to Sunday Funday! This edition of the Funday is what dessert or desserts are our favorites. I have two favorites but my all time absolute favorite Thanksgiving dessert growing up, and even now, in my thirties, is my grandmother’s egg custard pie.

She blended the perfect amount of milk, sugar, eggs and nutmeg…..oh the perfect amount! It was the one pie that I would eat the whole thing if I could and not get sick. I asked for it at every Thanksgiving (and Christmas and just because, too!). My mom didn’t like it with the nutmeg on it but my grandma would blend it all up, and pop it in the oven then just befoe she shut the door, she’d sprinkle just a wee bit more nutmeg on top and it made it just right! Now I make it, and it’s good, but just not quite the same as hers….I think it’s because she added her love to it. To me, it’s a litte bit of Heaven on earth, and tastes like egg nog. 🙂Â

The Recipe
4 eggs, beaten just a touch to blend them
2/3 cup granulated sugar (I think she used more, but that’s just me….)
1/4 teaspoon salt (how salt works in her recipes of desserts is beyond me but it works….)
2 1/2 cups milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract(she never used a spoon, just poured and eye balled it…..still baffles me today.)
1/4 teaspoon of ground nutmeg for inside the pie
1/4 teaspoon of ground nutmeg sprinkled on top just before shutting the oven door
Mix above together in a bowl, then add to a homemade pastry crust in a pie pan, or premade crust will work as well.
Bake at 350* until a toothpick, or knife inserted to center comes out clean, and the top is just golden.
Tell me, what is YOUR most favorite Thanksgiving dessert???
My father-in-law loves egg custard pie! I’m going to try to make this for him this year! Thanks for sharing!
Oh Molly, I loved this post. I like Pumpkin Pie, Apple Pie, Pecan Pie, oh wait a minute did you want me to just name one?
I was getting hungry writing mine, and thinking about Thanksgiving at my gramma’s house didn’t make it any better. This looks yummy!
Pumpkin and Pecan are my go to on Christmas and Thanksgiving, but I do love apple.
Ooh, this sounds yummy! My mom loves experimenting with different types of desserts so I don’t know if I really have a favorite.
