About The Book
Adopt a rescue dog and change both your lives! Doug was eight years old when he arrived at a rescue facility, confused and scared. His owner had passed away, and her final wish was for Doug to have another loving family. She had raised and loved him since he was a five-week-old puppy and knew he would make another family as happy as he had made her. When eight-year-old Michael and his family adopted Doug from the shelter, a happy new chapter of his life began! A Dog for Michael is the true story of Doug’s adoption and his new life. Anyone who spent time with Doug fell in love with this sweet, funny, and joyful dog. He has traveled throughout the USA with Michael and made friends in every city and town he visited. Many people have been motivated to adopt adult dogs after getting to know him. Shelter dogs are desperate for a home, and adult dogs make wonderful companions. If you can’t adopt, consider supporting your local adoption facility, either financially or by volunteering—you will make a difference in the lives of the animals and the generous, committed people who run these organizations.
My Thoughts
What a sweet book for children of all ages! I am a 30 something mama of two teens, and I truly enjoyed this book. If you are a dog lover, then you must check out this book. The pictures of Michael and Doug are truly well done, and really bring the story to life for the young readers. Ms. Nugent has a talent for creating a story that will steal the hearts of all who read it. Many people like to go out and buy a brand new puppy from a breeder, and that’s good, but sometimes, an older dog can need that love and affection just as much. Many shelters won’t keep an older dog for long, so adoption is best for them. When Michael met Doug he fell in love and the rest is history! This book is based on a true story and it absolutely stole my heart in all it’s 5 star glory! If you have a young one in your life, grab this book up and let them see what a difference loving an older dog can be. Well done, Ms. Nugent! I can’t wait to see another great book for young readers like this.

This must be a self published book. Not fond of that cover. It’s not one to jump off the shelf for my kids. I will pass on this one. My kids have to find the cover appealing to sit and read it.
Not judging a book by its cover is an important lesson to teach your children!
Sounds like a harm warming story, so nice that it focused on adopting an older dog.
Heart warming.
I think my kids would like this!
Awww this looks like a cute read!
