From the New York Times bestselling author of The Wedding Dress comes a new captivating novel of secrets, romance, and two women bound together across time by a shared dream.
Tenley Roth’s first book was a runaway bestseller. Now that her second book is due, she’s locked in fear. Can she repeat her earlier success or is she a fraud who has run out of inspiration?
With pressure mounting from her publisher, Tenley is weighted with writer’s block. But when her estranged mother calls asking Tenley to help her through chemotherapy, she packs up for Florida where she meets handsome furniture designer Jonas Sullivan and discovers the story her heart’s been missing.
A century earlier, another woman wrote at the same desk with hopes and fears of her own. Born during the Gilded Age, Birdie Shehorn is the daughter of the old money Knickerbockers. Under the strict control of her mother, her every move is decided ahead of time, even whom she’ll marry. But Birdie has dreams she doesn’t know how to realize. She wants to tell stories, write novels, make an impact on the world. When she discovers her mother has taken extreme measures to manipulate her future, she must choose between submission and security or forging a brand new way all on her own.
Tenley and Birdie are from two very different worlds, but fate has bound them together in a way time cannot erase.

My Thoughts
Rachel Hauck has been a long time favorite author of mine. She is incredible with her work. I was super excited to get the chance to read and review this new book by her, and let me tell you something. I didn’t just like the book. I loved it. I loved, loved, loved it. She took me on the most incredible whirl wind ride beside these incredible chiseled people. That’s right, people. Not just characters in a story, but people that felt real to me. With scenes and emotions that pop of the page, this book was absolutely fantastic.
As a daughter of a cancer survivor, this book just had all the feels to me. I loved the way Ms. Hauck alternated the story between history and contemporary. Not all authors can do that and keep me hooked. But, with an antique desk, two wonderful women who have writing in common and some twists, turns, and emotional happenings, Ms. Hauck did it perfectly.
Tenley, Birdie, Jonas, and even Elijah all stole a piece of my heart and refused to give it back. I felt their confusions, their struggles, their dreams and hopes, and their love of God. It was a faithful, powerful feeling, that was for sure! They were poignantly chiseled and absolutely perfect for their roles!
Ms. Hauck has definitely left me wanting more. This is a book that is deserving of more than a simple 5 star review. It deserves to be shouted about from the highest of highest mountain tops for every book lover to learn about. Ms. Hauck’s book will definitely be on my keeper shelf and will be one I turn to time and again for a faith filled, emotional read. Wonderously done, Ms. Hauck!
