About the Book Blogger Hop
The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer from Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, I relaunched the meme on February 15, 2013.
Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end on Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to your own blog.
This week’s question is:
If you read a book you ended up hating, would you stay away from future books by that author, or would you give them a second chance?
If you read a book you ended up hating, would you stay away from future books by that author, or would you give them a second chance?
My Answer
That is a tough question to answer. Some people, I’m sure, would say no they wouldn’t automatically. Me? Well, there are a few that I’ve read and just absolutely would not give them another try because of not only myself not liking the book, but others as well. However, there are books that I read and love by an author, then read one book and sit there like “whoa”, what just happened, I didn’t like it, etc. But, despite those thoughts, because I’ve read others by them in the past, I will continue to give them the chance, as not everyone is perfect and sometimes, we have “off” situations. If it’s a new to me author, and I don’t like the book, well, as I said above, it will depend on the amount of other people not liking the book and whether or not I will give the author a second chance to redeem themselves.

How about you? Would you give second chances to authors? Leave me a comment below with your thoughts and a link to your blog post if you have one! Or just leave me a link to your blog. I’m all about blog following and I love to learn of new ones!
Several years ago I read a book by a new-to-me author. I didn’t like the book or the writing style. I have yet to read another book from this author. I have considered trying another of her books. But as of yet, I’ve not. Now I’m thinking I really should.
Thanks for commenting! I’m like that on a few authors right now, too, and I’m back and forth between if I want to read another or just back away. It’s definitely a hard decision. I hope if you do read another, you like it!
Last month I read an authors first book and it was the worst book I have ever read. I would not waste my time or money reading another one of her books.
I hate when I come across books like that but it does happen, that’s for sure.
Welcome to The Book Blogger Hop. I hope you join in the fun each week.
Nice answer….I do look at the ratings and give the first book a try. If it is a subject that really doesn’t appeal to me, I wouldn’t read another book, but then again, I could try. I have a 100-page rule. 🙂
Thanks for sharing, and have a nice weekend.
Happy Hopping!!

My Blog Hop Answer
Thanks, Elizabeth! I’m excited to join the hop. Your 100 page rule is a good one to have!
Have a wonderful week!
Your answer reminded me of an author of a book I read and loved–it’s one of my all-time favorites. And every book of hers I’ve read since hasn’t come close to that one book I loved. It definitely works both ways. Just because I may not like the first book, doesn’t mean I won’t love her second or maybe her third.
Even so, I find that writing style says a lot about whether I will like an author’s work or not–especially if it’s a writing style that carries over into the author’s other works.
Thank you for sharing! I hope you have a great week!
Exactly! Writing style is what I look for, too. It’s so hard to decide sometimes though,as I feel every one deserves a chance.
Have a wonderful week as well!
