Over 200 mouthwatering recipes–fresh from the farm
I’m Dawn Stoltzfus. Welcome to my kitchen! I was raised on a Mennonite farm where simple, wholesome food was a key ingredient of the good life. Now I’m opening up my recipe box, wiping away the crumbs and wrinkles from the well-loved recipe cards, and sharing them with you. From Pumpkin Cinnamon Rolls and Strawberry Shortcake to Old-Fashioned Beef Stew and Chicken and Herb Dumplings, all the best comfort foods I learned to cook from my mother are here, along with some dishes that may surprise you!
In addition to the simple, wholesome recipes for starters, main dishes, sides, and desserts, I share favorite stories from my Mennonite upbringing, tips and tricks for easy meal planning and preparation, and ideas for serving with flair.
If you enjoy feeding your family hearty, wholesome meals made with fresh ingredients and lots of love, please join me in the kitchen!

About The Author:
Dawn Stoltzfus is a wife, a mother of two sweet little boys, and a lover of anything creative. She started and ran The Farmer’s Wife Market until 2008 when she sold it in order to stay at home to raise her family. She loves to cook, for one or three hundred, and sees cooking and entertaining as an opportunity to “be Jesus to people” and serve them out of love and joy rather than out of a sense of obligation. Her love for cooking was inspired by her mother and developed as she cooked for her family of six on their active, working dairy farm in Ohio.
My Review:
For those that don’t know me, I’m a big lover of all things Amish and Mennonite. I love their simplicity and their quietness. They are truly something to behold! But, even more than that, I love their baking and their cooking. Oh my gosh, I have fallen in love with cooking their foods. I have nearly ever Amish or Mennonite cookbook to date and each one, while holding similarities, is unique and full of so many tasty things!
Ms. Stoltzfus’ cookbook is amazing! I loved reading through each recipe…my mouth watered the entire time, just reading it!!! It’s filled with so many yummy goodies, and they are all simple and easy to make, mostly with things you can look in your pantry and find. I wanted to dive into the book and try each and every recipe at once but I didn’t. However, I did try a few and one of my favorites was the comfort food side dish, Brown Butter Green Beans. They were really good!
Brown Butter Green Beans
1 lb fresh green beans
1/2 cup onion, diced
3 Tbsp. salted butter (no substitutions)
1 1/2 tsp. salt, divided
1/2 tsp. fresh cracked pepper
Place green beans in saucepan. Add 1 inch of water and 1 teaspoon salt. Bring to a boil. Boil for 7 minutes until crisp-tender. Drain.
In frying pan, heat butter over low heat until melted. Once butter is melted, add onions and cook for 5 minutes, then turn heat up to medium and cook for 2-3 minutes, until butter turns brown and fragrant. Remove heat and pour over green beans. Sprinkle with remaining 1/2 teaspoon salt and pepper. Serve immediately. Yields 2-3 servings.
This was really simple and oh so yummy!!!
With food for thoughts and little added tidbits, along with some homemade household recipes in the back, this is a delightful recipe book! Definitely a 5 book worthy one to have on hand for comfort food, delicious drinks and yummy-in-your-tummy desserts. Wonderfully done, Ms. Stoltzfus!
