Shawn is the guy Ronnie Bird promised her life to at the age of fourteen. He’s her soul mate. He’s more uptight every day, but it’s not his fault. His family life is stressful, and she’s adding to it. She just needs to be more understanding, and he’ll start to be the boy she fell in love with. She won’t give up on someone she’s loved for so long.
Luke is her best friend, and the guy she hangs with to watch girlie movies in her large blanketopias. He’s the guy she can confide in before she even goes to her girlfriends, and the guy who she’s playing opposite in Romeo and Juliet. Now her chest flutters every time he gets too close. This is new. Is Ronnie falling for him? Or is Juliet? The lines are getting blurry, but leaving one guy for another is not something that a girl like Ronnie does.
Shawn’s outbursts are starting to give her bruises, and Luke’s heart breaks as Ronnie remains torn. While her thoughts and feelings swirl around the lines between friendship and forever, she’s about to lose them both.

My Review:
Wow. Let me take just a moment to reflect on this awesome book. I have never read a book by Jolene Perry before, but did have the opportunity to host her with a guest post, some time back. This book’s plot line just blew me away and I truly wanted to find out what the book was all about. I am happy to say that this book is a keeper and one that I will reflect on over and over again.
I totally fell in love with Ronnie’s character, bless her. She’s a young woman who is torn, inside and out. Inside she knows that Shawn is the guy for her, has been since she was younger. But, between her and his stressful home life, he’s changing; becoming more abusive. Loving him though and knowing that a woman stands by her man, she stays with him, even if on the outside the bruises are showing.
Having the chance to play Juliet across the stage from her amazing best friend Luke whose always there for her, has her thinking that maybe there is more to love than just bruises and support. Maybe there is a happily ever after? Her turmoil lies, though, in the fact that she’s promised herself to Shawn. So, how can she fall for another guy? And Luke won’t stay around forever and watch the beautiful Ronnie waste her life away with someone who doesn’t appreciate her beauty, both inside and out.
This is a wonderful 5 Book worthy novel of finding your true self, and grasping on to the meaning of what love really is. A wonderful young adult book that will leave you reflecting long after the pages have ended, and leave you wanting more. I definitely recommend this to all those who love an emotionally gripping, strong story line in a young adult novel. Well done, Ms. Perry!
