RBM:Tell us about Joel M. Andre. Who are you when you’re not writing?
JMA:That is all I actually do. I work for a company, www.needanarticle.com for my day job and write my fiction in the spare time I have.

RBM:Do you have a day job as well?
JMA:Yes, I write online content for people

RBM:How did you choose the genre you write in and where do your ideas come from?
JMA:My ideas are random thoughts I have. Horror was my father’s favorite genre and that is why I chose to write it initially. I slowly fell in love with it over the years.

RBM:Can you tell us about your challenges in getting your first book published?
JMA:There has been plenty of challenges. I think deciding the format was the biggest challenge. When I started putting out content in 2008, digital content wasn’t big. But I did put some stuff onto the Kindle at that time and I am glad I did.

RBM:If you had to go back and do it all over, is there any aspect of your novel or getting it published that you would change?
JMA:Nope, it would change who I was today. All the struggles and the pain are worth it.

RBM:Have you written a book you love that you have not been able to get published?
JMA:No, if I love a book, I will publish it. There are books I have written that I have chosen not to publish. Maybe after I pass away, there can be a Lost Works collection. **Though we don’t want anything to happen to you, you could, um, you know…dedicate it to me, Michelle , and April ….;-)**

RBM:How do you market your work? What avenues have you found to work best for your genre?
JMA:I seriously hate self-promotion. You will notice most of my responses are direct and to the point. I know authors who shove their work down everyone’s throat and it is a huge turn off. Yes, they sell more than I do. But I love my bloggers and it works for me. **We love you too, Joel!**

RBM:What was your favorite chapter (or part) to write and why?
JMA:I love writing detailed openings. They are like painting pictures with words.

RBM:What has been the toughest criticism given to you as an author? What has been the best compliment?
JMA:I evaluate criticism and pull what I need to from it. The best compliment? I don’t take compliments well, I just focus on my books and while praise is nice, you can’t let it control your vision. That’s where you make mistakes.

Here’s a couple of quirky questions for you,Joel….
RBM:What’s your favorite movie?
JMA:Halloween **GREAT choice. It’s an awesome movie, and I have to say my next favorite is the first Nightmare On Elm Street…had me scared for years!**

RBM:Cake with or without ice cream?
JMA:With

RBM:Date night out, or date night in?
JMA:Always In

RBM:Thanksgiving or Christmas?
JMA:Christmas

RBM:Physical copy of a book or eReader??
JMA:Physical

A Death At The North Pole

Detective Lauren Bruni has dealt with death for her entire life. She has watched it ruin lives, and brought people closer together. Her job taught her to separate fact from fiction.
But on a cold December day, all Lauren had believed in would be shattered and tossed aside. Thrust in a world unlike any she has seen before, she investigates a prominent figure’s grisly murder, and searches for answers along a strange new set of people.

All while a killer watchers her every movement from the background. He waits in the shadows, waiting to strike at her when the time is right.

What is the secret of the death at the North Pole, and what is the larger horror at hand? Life lessons are learned and a realization that sometimes the most real things in this world are the ones we believe in the least.

About Joel M. Andre:
Joel M. Andre was born January 13, 1981. At a young age he was fascinated with the written word. It was at fourteen that Poe blew his mind, and Andre began to dabble with darker poetry.

Between the years of 1999 and 2007 Joel was featured in various poetry anthologies and publications. In 2008 he released his first collection,Pray the Rain Never Ends.

Knowing there was something deeper and darker inside of his soul, Joel decided to take a stab at commercialism. Releasing the dark tongue in cheek, A Death at the North Pole, created a dark world among the death of Kris Kringle. Ultimately providing a tale of redemption.
October of 2008 saw Joel release his second book, Kill 4 Me. A tale in which a woman is haunted by a vengeful spirit through text messages and instant messaging.

Taking some time off and doing a lot of soul searching, Joel took things in a new direction and dabbled in the Fantasy Genre with, The Pentacle of Light. The tale dealing with five major races battling for control of Earth, and the acceptance of their God.
Finally, after missing his detective Lauren Bruni, he released the book The Return in October 2009, this time moving the action from the North Pole and placing it in the small Arizona community he was raised in.

Andre’s latest book is The Black Chronicles: Cry of the Fallen about a dead man who seeks revenge on the woman that tormented him in peaceful Northern Arizona.

Currently, he resides in Chandler, AZ.

  1. Nice interview! I could picture two people sitting comfortably across from one another having a chat. His answers were concise and devoid of puffery. I can appreciate that.
