Grime cop and teen fairy Pepper Powder lives for one thing: protecting the human species from magical zealots who seek to eradicate them with Violent Illness of Unusual Resistance and Strength (humans call them “viruses,” but their mistake is understandable. The very young often get their words wrong.). When a terrorist leader releases a necrophage bomb, it not only decimates Grime headquarters, it turns Pepper into the magical world’s first fairy amputee—but she’s not going to let a little thing like a missing leg stop her. To catch her criminal, and prevent him from unleashing a VIURS in one of the human world’s biggest shopping centers, West Edmonton Mall, she goes undercover as a human. But once Pepper’s theories of humanity collide with the reality of bullies, cliques, and environmental destruction, will she still believe humanity’s worth saving?
About the Author:
When I was little, there was only one thing I wanted to be: a superhero. But there came a day when my dreams were broken, and that was the day I realized that being a klutz was not, in fact, a super power, and my super weakness for anything bright and shiny meant a magpie with self-control could easily defeat me in a battle of wills. I turned to writing as a way to sharpen my mental super-hero skills. I don’t get to orbit the earth in a space station (and thank God, because I get sick on merry go round), but I do get to say things like: “Stand aside! This is a job for Writing Girl!!”
Okay. So let me take a minute to reflect back on this book. *Reflecting* Okay. I’m back. Now, to start off on this, I’m gonna say, I’m not a huge fan of Fantasy novels. I like the Vamps, Weres, and Shifters that I’ve recently begun reading with a passion, but not so big on Fantasy novels. That being said, I really and totally enjoyed this new book from the talented author Natasha Deen. I’ve read some of her previous work and she’s definitely got skills!
Now, on to the story. Seriously? Pepper Powder Puff? Harley Hands? Just from the names alone you get a kick out of the story. But, they are actually awesome characters. Faeries who double as teens to work the True Grime unit. Yep, they are in charge of ridding the world of this thing called a VIRUS(VIURS). Once they are are undercover, the partners head out to rid the human world of all the nasties, all the virus’. But what they encounter there is not what they expected. Will they be able to rid the world of the grime? Will they be able to save humanity?
In this fun, laugh-out-loud, story readers young and old alike will have fun getting to know Pepper and Harley and the True Grime gang. They take you on a roller coaster of ups and downs, blending the perfect amount of mystery with laughs, and creating a fantastic story of good verses evil.
I highly recommend this with a 5 Books rating! It’s fantastic! Whether it’s romantic suspense, or young adult urban fantasy, Ms. Deen knows how to create lovable characters, and detailed plot lines and keep the reader hooked from beginning to end. I’m now a fan of Young Adult fantasy ,especially grime fighting faeries! I certainly hope Pepper makes a return in the future!
