About the Book:
Deliver Me from Evil introduces readers to Mara, an eighteen-year-old girl who has been enslaved for nearly ten years, having been sold by her parents in Mexico and then smuggled across the border into San Diego where she was forced into sexual slavery. Readers will also meet 18-year-old, Bible-college-bound Jonathan and his 16-year-old sister, Leah, whose paths cross Mara’s and who become involved in her dramatic rescue.

Interwoven between the stories of Mara, Jonathan, and Leah is the heartbreaking story of another young woman in captivity in the Golden Triangle of Thailand, whose past life mysteriously connects to the young people in San Diego.

My Review:
I am a huge fan of Kathi Macias’ work. Everything I’ve read by her has not disappointed me yet. And, I’m happy to say that this is a YA novel and one that I am not afraid to say that I loved. It’s not a light read by any means….no, it’s FAR from it, but grips the reader of any age, takes them straight the hauntingly real middle of human trafficking.

Mara and Jonathan were wonderful characters…Mara was forced into a life of “trafficking” by her Uncle, and Jonathan is just an innocent minister’s son who delivers pizza part time. But, that pizza delivering lands him in a place where he encounters Mara, leaving there with a determination to both forget the scene and do what ever it takes to rescue her….and countless others….from a life of hell.

Through Jonathan’s courage, and his family’s faith, Macias shows her readers the true meaning of faith, love, hope and honor in a world where things aren’t always what it seems. Human trafficking is REAL. It’s VERY real. But, sadly, too many of us look the other way and don’t say anything. When in reality, what we need to do, is tell God, turn over to Him, and let His guidance, mercy and love work the wonders.

This is a book that I will forever recommend to anyone looking for a 5 Book worthy, quality, LIFE CHANGING read. While filled with characters of the young adult age, the message stands strong for every one. This is TRUE life CHANGING fiction at it’s best. It’s the start to a wonderful series, by a superbly talented lady, and I am proud to say that I am a Kathi Macias fan. I can NOT wait to have book 2 in my hands, so I can continue following the Freedom series.
