About the Book:
The word is out about Sadie Hoffmiller’s amateur detective work, but it’s not the kind of publicity Sadie wants. When a slanderous article threatens Sadie’s reputation in the community, she accepts her first investigation-for-hire and travels to Portland, Oregon—if only to give herself some space from her whispering neighbors. And from Pete Cunningham, who is sending her mixed signals about their budding relationship.
Sadie hopes the Portland air will clear her head, and she is eager to get to work for May Sanderson, who has suspicions about her father’s untimely death.

Putting her detective skills to the test, Sadie delves into a complicated past that includes a business partnership that didn’t end well, several unsavory family secrets, and more than a few motives for murder.

Sadie is afraid she might crumble under the pressure, but in a new place with new recipes, she finds herself more determined than ever to uncover the answers buried in scandal, insatiable appetites, and pure and simple greed.

My Review:
I loved this book even more than I did Key Lime Pie! Ms. Kilpack has what it takes to create a FANTASTIC culinary mystery. She mixes my two favorite things and throws out a novel that is so worth reading. She blends it all with just the right amount of funny humor, making her newest dish a sensation of a read!
Sadie is one character that I will not forget for a long time to come. She was in Ms. Kilpack’s 4 previous novels (though, sadly, I only have read book 3, Key Lime Pie!), and she just gets better and better. It seems that where ever Sadie is, there’s food and……murder. Unlike Key Lime Pie, Blackberry Crumble brings Sadie to an unexpected profession: PI. Yep, that’s right. Private Investigator. She’s set and determined to help solve the mysterious crime of murder, and along the way, she makes the readers laugh. She’s a funny, witty, and often times down right lovable, but that doesn’t stop her from trying to prove innocence when innocence is due!
I absolutely love Sadie! She is the ULTIMATE character for a culinary mystery. Her character is so life like and when I read Sadie’s stories, I feel like I’ve known her my entire life. I love following along side her in her crime solving mode. I laugh until I cry in spots and in others, well, let’s just say I am just plain happy to be able to be a part of Sadie’s fun.
If you love getting new recipes, and if you love to solve those ups and downs of a fun, great mystery, then look no further than Josi Kilpack’s wonderful work of culinary mysteries. She will be a hit with any book lover! Five stars and two thumbs, no doubt, to an author who is masterful! I absolutely can not wait to go back and read the first 3 novels, as well as read #6 six in this fantastic, fun series!
