About the Book:
Suze Hall is at a crossroads. Her nemesis at work, Wanda, has been promoted and now will be her boss. Her husband, Bob, is leaving her and the three kids for a six-month sabbatical down under. To top it off, her best friend, Marcia, is missing in action–playing footsie with some new boyfriend!

Adding to this disaster stew, David, the gorgeous hunk who broke her young-girl’s heart, has coincidentally popped back into her life and has something she desperately needs to keep her job.

Walking with Elephants, a lighthearted slice-of-life story, brings to the table the serious work/family issues facing women today. It explores the modern dichotomy of a workplace that is filled with homemakers who still must cook, clean, carpool on nights and weekends, shop for prom dresses, and “create” the holidays—such as Suze. But it also is filled with women who have the same drive as men, have no family responsibilities, and will do whatever it takes to get ahead.

So step into the shoes of Suze Hall and commiserate over workplace politics, titillate your sexual fantasies, ride the wave of a working mother, and fall-down laughing.

About the Author:
Walking with Elephants is my first novel, although I am not new to writing. I was a theater critic and celebrity interviewer for a weekly tabloid in Jacksonville, Fl and I earned a Master’s in Mass Communication from Oklahoma State University. For 15 years I was an editor/writer at a major accounting firm. I also was a technical editor for an accounting magazine that published monthly. Inspiration for this novel came from my direct contact with the joys of Corporate America and the balancing act that comes with being a working mother.

My Review:
If you read this book, you may be like me and think that there is NO way this is a DEBUT novel by this fantastic author. She is extremely talented and really grips different emotions in this book, from hilarious laugh-out-loud thoughts, to anger, to sympathy. But, her understanding of what a reader wants brings it all together to blend together perfectly in one extreme, entertaining read.

While I was not crazy about the title, Walking With Elephants (it wouldn’t have really caught my eye had I seen it in a store.), I loved the story. Suze Hall is trying to make things come together, being a homemaker, wife, career woman, and mother, while still trying to keep her cool. And, just when things are changing at work, and she still has her “routine” at home, bam! Her hubby, Bob, slams news on her that is interesting: he’s taking his 6 month sabbatical soon. TO AUSTRALIA! As if Suze didn’t need one more thing to think about. Then enter her ex boyfriend. What on earth will she do now? Being a single parent of two rambunctious boys myself, I really enjoyed reading Suze’s story and feeling lightened by it!

Karen S. Bell really did a fantastic job with this book. She made it hilarious from page one, and kept me laughing throughout. It is VERY entertaining and one that I would DEFINITELY read again. I encourage everyone, while there is some mild language (nothing over bearing), to read this laugh-out-loud 4 star book. It will be worth the time to read it! Well done, Karen!
