About the Book:
Each Friday morning at the Indigo Moon Cafe, Jennifer, Bridget and Tamara meet to swap stories about marriage, kids, and work. But one day, spurred by recent e-mails from her college ex, Jennifer poses questions they’ve never faced before. What if they all married the wrong man? What if they’re living the wrong life? And what would happen if, just once, they gave in to temptation…Soon each woman is second-guessing the choices she’s made – and the ones she can unmake – as she becomes aware of new opportunities around every corner, from attentive colleagues and sexy neighbours to flirtatious past lovers. And as fantasies blur with real life, Jennifer, Bridget and Tamara begin to realize how little they know about each other, their marriages, and themselves, and how much there is to gain – and lose – when you step outside the rules…

About the Author:
Marilyn Brant is the award-winning women’s fiction author of ACCORDING TO JANE, the story of a modern woman who receives dating advice from the spirit of Jane Austen (October 2009); FRIDAY MORNINGS AT NINE, a contemporary fairy tale about three suburban moms, their marriages and what happens a decade or two after the Happily Ever After (October 2010 — a Doubleday Book Club and Book-of-the-Month Club pick!); and A SUMMER IN EUROPE, her forthcoming novel about a woman’s journey of self discovery as she travels through Europe with her adventurous aunt’s Sudoku-and-Mahjongg club (available on November 29, 2011), all from Kensington Books.

As a former teacher, library staff member, freelance magazine writer and national book reviewer for Romantic Times, Marilyn has spent much of her life lost in literature. She received her M.A. in educational psychology from Loyola University Chicago, dabbled in both fiction and art at Northwestern University, studied the works of Austen at Oxford University and is an active member of the Jane Austen Society of North America. Her debut novel won RWA’s prestigious Golden Heart Award® in 2007 and a number of awards since — including the Single Titles Reviewers’ Choice (2009), the Booksellers’ Best (2010) and the Aspen Gold (2010).

Marilyn lives in the northern Chicago suburbs with her family, but she also hangs out online at her blog “Brant Flakes.” When she isn’t rereading Jane’s books or enjoying the latest releases by her writer friends, she’s working on her next novel, eating chocolate indiscriminately and hiding from the laundry.

My Review:
Wow! This is a new style of book for me! I have always wanted to read Jane Austen novels and/or Jane Austen styled writing, and that is what this novel is like. If this is how Jane Austen like novels are, then I’m hooked for life! Marilyn Brant really brings lovable, mid-forties women, and pulls them into the plot line perfectly. The reader is instantly hooked and, through some wishing and hoping, some laugh-out-loud moments, the reader will be taken on a whirl wind ride through this chick lit novel, and set down at unexpected places.

Jennifer, Bridgett and Tamara are 3 totally opposite women, but are the best of friends. Each has their own struggles and tales to tell, but, at some point, they all share the hope and want for similar things. Their Friday morning meetings at their designated coffee spot, really brings life to the story, where they sit and tell of each ones new issues. Definitely a good plot line!

The sad thing about this book, is I haven’t read Brant’s first novel, According to Jane. I am definitely hooked on Brant’s novels now and will make the effort to go back and read it,as well. Friday Mornings At Nine is worthy of 4 stars and high recommendations to all the women out there who are looking for a good, curl-up-with-a-book read. Well done, Brant!
