About the Author:
Stephanie Morrill is a member of the American Christian Fiction Writers and the Teen Lit writers’ group. Morrill is the author of Me, Just Different and Out with the In Crowd, and she also serves in youth ministry. She lives in Kansas with her husband and young daughter.
My Review:
Out with the In Crowd is book 2 in Morrill’s The Reinvention of Skylar Hoyt, and I, unfortunately, did not get to read book 1, Me Just Different(but I will be making it a book that I will be reading very soon!). In Out with the In Crowd there are a few areas that seemed like they were on going from book 1, but not in a way that confused me, making this book good for reading with the series or as a possible stand alone title. It has so many messages weaved in the lines of this book that I don’t know where to begin with out giving away any spoilers!
What I truly want to know is, where in the world were these kind of books 11 years ago when I was in high school!? Morrill’s book is written in a way that won’t bore you, but has a powerful message from God wonderfully written between the lines. The issues that are dealt with in this book(exes, friendships old and new, possible divorce, new loves, trust, God and teen pregnancy) all touched a deep spot in my heart and I could feel myself really being drawn in,praying for and with, and wanting to reach out and hug Skylar and her sister. And I found myself also, like Skylar did, being able to smile when her boyfriend Connor entered the picture.
I highly recommend that all high school girls read this book (and I am sure that book 1 would be a great one to read too!). God is woven through out this book and is sure to reach out to them and let them know that He loves them and that it is okay to not be in the “in” crowd and be in His crowd! It is definitely a 5 star teen fiction book that you won’t want to miss. And I am now anxiously awaiting the release of the conclusion of The Reinvention of Skylar Hoyt, with Morrill’s final book, So Over It, set to release in July 2010.
